Treatments For Cancer Other Than Chemotherapy

Cancer is a common disease around the world which leads the second position of causing death among the Americans. This most common term is applied to refer tumors or malignant neoplasm. There are two types of cancer. Benign is one of two categories of cancer which always occur locally whether another cancer type malignant spread the cells to the adjacent tissues as well as oppose the function of the cells and result an undesirable systemic effects on the body.

You will find the abnormal function of the cellular genes which assure the normal cell growth or mitosis of the cell as the main reason of neoplasm. These cellular genes are recognized as oncogenes. There are many factors that are responsible for activating oncogenes abnormally such as some specific chemicals, biological or physical factors, dietary factors and so on. In the dietary factors, the most common foods involved in causing neoplasm are red meat, alcoholic drink, foods of saturated fat etc.

If you are looking for nutritional treatment other than chemotherapy for cancer, you are lucky enough as you are reading this article. I wish you will find your answer here.

Nutritional therapy for preventing cancer: The main purposes of nutritional therapy for cancer are to meet the higher nutritional requirement for metabolism as well as catabolism and to prevent the symptoms that are caused by the disease. Following are the nutritional requirements that are given to the cancer patient as nutritional therapy.

Energy: To satisfy the higher requirement for metabolism and also for alleviating the excessive weight loss, the energy requirements are increased. Around 2000 Kcal are given to a well nourished adult patient to regulate the normal needs and 3000-4000 Kcal are given to a malnourished patient.

Protein: For healing, regeneration and rehabilitation of body tissue, increased amount of protein is needed to supply the required nitrogen as well as essential amino acids. About 80 g of protein is given to a well nourished adult patient where more than 100g is given to a malnourished patient to replenish tissues as well as to assure the positive nitrogen balance.

Fluid: Enough amount of fluid is required to keep the urinary tract save from inflammation and irritation.

Vitamins and minerals: Intake of sufficient amount of vitamins and minerals is necessary to meet the normal level of vitamins and minerals of RDA (Recommended dietary allowance).

Information About Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy, the very words themselves strike terror into the heart of most every cancer victim. Not that the treatments themselves aren't affective, often they work very successfully, however with many people the first thing they think of is how sick they have heard people get with this form of treatment. I've heard it said that some people claim that they are sick for several days, better for one or two and then go back for more treatments only to repeat the cycle over again.

Chemotherapy itself is the treatment of combating a disease, in this case cancer, through the use of a select group of chemicals which combat and kill fast dividing blood cells. Since fast division is something which is often attributed to various forms of cancer, chemotherapy is often the treatment of choice.

Chemotherapy is also used to combat other diseases, including multiple sclerosis, dermatomyositis, polymyositis, lupis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Another nightmare aspect that the words chemotherapy bring to mind is that of hair loss. I'm sure we've all heard the stories about someone running their fingers through their hair to smooth it back only to have it start falling out in clumps, or perhaps getting up in the morning to find that their hair stays behind on their pillow.

The thing that isn't emphasized as much as these nightmare aspects is that chemotherapy quite often helps in three different ways for which it may be used. The first is curative. Chemotherapy often does prove successful in eliminating the body of cancer, thereby curing the person, secondly, in prolonging the person's life by slowing down the cancer from its invasion of the person's body and thirdly, in a palative way, by helping to improve the so called quality of the person's life, thereby emphasizing quality rather than quantity.

Chemotherapy is usually delivered through the means of intravenous injection. This method has improved through the years until today it often is delivered through isolated infusion, which simply means that it is given in a concentrated dose that is aimed right at the afflicted area, rather than also attacking the entire system, which means it is less apt to destroy good cells that are fast acting as right along with the cancerous cells which it is intended to destroy.

The so-called nightmare aspects of chemotherapy can be combated. The studies conducted by many medical professionals have led them to recommend that their patients eat frequent small meals, rather than the usual three meals a day. Many also recommend the drinking of clear liquids or of ginger tea. The important thing to remember is that chemotherapy helps in most cases and that the adverse effects usually stop shortly when the treatments are ended.

As for the hair loss, the hair does grow back. This has never proven to be a permanent thing. A strange aspect of this growing back is that it sometimes grows back curly, even though it was straight to begin with. This result is often rather jokingly referred to as a 'chemo perm'.

Chemotherapy is a good thing. It is intended to and often does help with the purpose for which it is used. This is one nightmare that can be the answer to a person's best dreams.

Important Nutritional Tips For Mesothelioma Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is one of the main treatments that cancer patients can to treat the disease. It involves the use of anticancer drugs to kill the cancer cells, however normal cells are also destroyed in the process.

This destruction of cancer cells leaves the body in a weak state. In addition, chemotherapy has a number of side effects, such as nausea. If cancer patients do not eat properly, they can become malnourished and pass away not from cancer, but from an infection or other illness in their weakened state. These are some tips to improve the nutrition of patients undergoing chemotherapy:

1 -. Chemotherapy can cause anorexia{poor appetite} so choose foods that really pack a nutritional punch, so when you do eat, even if it is just a small amount, you are consuming nutritional foods high in protein and calories. Keep healthy snacks with you at all times. You should also consider adding daily multivitamin to boost your diet, but you must discuss this with your doctor before you add them.

2 - Unfortunately, chemotherapy can also cause constipation and diarrhea - sometimes both in the same patient. To avoid these problems, drink plenty of fluids and avoid anything with caffeine. You may also want to cut most of the dairy out of your diet. Foods with good soluble fiber, such as mashed potatoes and bananas, can also be added to your diet to help with constipation and diarrhea.

3 - One of the best ways to boost your diet during chemotherapy is to add as much protein to your diet as possible. Proteins, such as those found in meat, nuts and beans, can help you feel better during treatment, and can help fight cancer more effectively. Even if you do not care for meat or are dealing with anorexia, there are many ways to add protein to your diet. Here are some great tips for integrating protein whenever possible:

  • When making pasta, add a beaten egg at the last second. As you stir, the heat will cook the egg, adding a great source of protein.
  • Eat peanut butter with fruit.
  • Add extra beans to soups and other dishes.
  • Add powdered milk to recipes like muffins, mashed potatoes, and meatloaf.
  • Prepare protein drinks and keep them with you all day, so you can get protein even just a sip at a time.
  • Nuts are a great protein-enriched snack to carry with you throughout the day.

You can talk to a dietician about more ways to add protein to your diet.

4 - In addition, if you're dealing with anorexia, your should add many calories to your diet to keep up strength. Some of the best ways to do this include:

  • Spread butter or margarine on crackers.
  • Stir unsweetened whipped cream into mashed potatoes.
  • Add honey to cereal or desserts.
  • Sprinkle granola into yogurt.
  • Choose dried fruits as a healthy snack, and add them to meals or baked goods when possible.
A mesothelioma patient should seek to know as much as possible about the different methods of treating the disease so that they can cooperate maximally with treatment.

What Are Causes and Treatment of Leukemia Cancer?

Leukemia leads to a reduction of white blood cells in the body system. Leukemia can thus be treated by way of ensuring that the body increases the White blood cells count. Leukemia can also be treated just by use of the same methods as used to treat cancer.

Chemotherapy is one such way, though this may take too much time. In fact, treatment using this method can take a period of not less than two years. Another way of treating the condition is by fixing the bone marrow problem. This method is expensive and is done in very few countries since it involves use of sophisticated instruments and highly experienced medics.

Replacement of the infected bone marrow with a healthy one is what it entails. A radiation therapy is also recommended though this has to go hand in hand with chemotherapy. Radiation entails giving doses of x-ray for a couple of months.

In cases where there is overproduction of White blood cells, there may be some blood infections. This may lead to blood disorders, and hence become necessary to use antibiotics to fight the problem.

If leukemia is at early stages, one can prolong survival with active immunotherapy. This is however still being experimented, as it is reported by Leukemia Society of America. Leukemia is actually a chronic problem and its treatment is not a matter of a short duration of time. Patience is thus of paramount importance. Cases of complete eradication using the above mentioned methods have been reported worldwide.

Symptoms of Leukemia

Leukemia is a disease that has claimed many people worldwide. It is a disease that can affect anyone irrespective of race, sex, color or age. Medics say that it is a bone marrow disease, but is also said to affect other parts of the human body. Just like most other diseases, Leukemia may have specific symptoms that doctors can use to identify a person suffering from it.

The most common symptom of Leukemia is body fever. Fever is a condition of feeling uncomfortable with the body temperature. It is a condition evident when somebody has Malaria, Flu, Typhoid, etc. Another symptom is body weaknesses that appear so exaggerated. This can be felt for a longer duration of time with no apparent cause.

A patient may also have the problem of not wanting to be engaged in strenuous physical exercises, and you may find the body becoming intolerant to activity. The fourth obvious symptom is the exaggerated abdominal pain. This is where one just feels uneasy even standing or seated.

Longer period of Leukemia will also resort to the loss of weight. Since Leukemia is a sort of cancer, the fat in the body may be eaten up or the system of converting body energy to fat may be tampered with. The other top symptom of anemia is enlargement of the lymph nodes, spleen, and/or liver The body may also experience intense tiredness that even movement is much of a bother. There may also be a noticeable bleeding of the abdomen. The body is also prone to infections because the white blood cells are weak.

Excessive bruising is also very evident.

How You Can Survive Stage 4 Bone Cancer

Getting diagnosed with any type of stage 4 cancer is normally a cause for deep concern and worry and bone cancer is no different. However, due to medical advancements today, there exist treatments, so don't lose hope if you find yourself in such a situation. This article provides a rundown of these available treatments so that can survive stage 4 bone cancer.

Surgery

At this dangerous stage of bone cancer, it is common that doctors opt for surgery in order to physically remove as much of the tumor as possible. This may also involve removing healthy tissue around it to make sure that it doesn't spread any further. However, the tumor may have spread so much that the best decision is to remove part or an entire limb. This is obviously not an easy decision to make, but when you weigh it up against the possibility of dying, it's actually not a difficult one to make.

Chemotherapy

This involves the use of drugs to destroy cancer cells in the body. It also prevents cancerous cells from dividing. While this treatment has a good rate of success, it comes with severe side effects such as the onset of anemia, fever, loss of hair, vomiting, nausea and even sterility.

Radiation Therapy

This involves using powerful x-rays to destroy cancer cells in your body. This has been known to be effective in removing a majority of cancer cells especially the ones that can't be reach or safely removed with surgery. However, there are some side effects such as fatigue and skin irritation.

I hope this article has been able to convince you and give you hope that you (or anyone else for that matter) can survive stage 4 bone cancer.

Chemotherapy Drugs - A Major Profit Center For Oncologists

Like many cancer survivors who have endured chemotherapy treatments, I have often said, "The treatment was worse than the disease." Why is it that, in spite of the very dangerous side effects of chemotherapy, it still seems to be the choice treatment of many oncologists? Do you think it might be because administering chemotherapy is very profitable for the oncologists?

Did you know that cancer doctors are allowed to profit from the sale of chemotherapy drugs? It is totally restricted and exclusive for oncologists. I don't know of any other group of doctors who are allowed to profit from the sale of drugs.

Think about this. A significant amount of revenue for oncologists comes from the profit they make from selling the chemotherapy drugs. Do you think that is why chemotherapy is so widely used by oncologists? Is it "All about the money?"

Do you think oncologists might be tempted to give you the drug that they're going to make the most profit from? I like to have the faith that my doctor has my best interest at heart. Unfortunately, the money incentives, does something to destroy my faith.

Here is what I believe to be a perfect example of that. Trisha Torrey, was told by her doctor, "You have a very rare cancer - a lymphoma - called Subcutaneous Panniculitis-like T-Cell Lymphoma." Her doctor referred her to an oncologist. The news from the oncologist was very discouraging. She was told, without chemo she would be dead before Christmas. She asked about the possibility that the lab results were wrong. She was told, "No - not a chance. Two labs had independently confirmed the results." She said the pressure began to mount to begin chemotherapy.

Terry sought out the opinion of another oncologist. Three weeks later, in late September, she was given the confirmation that, in fact, she had no cancer. Is it possible her first oncologist was pressuring her into having chemotherapy because of the money he would make? I don't know but it is a scary thought.

Oncologists are very much like the business owners of retail stores. According to a recent NBC News Report, oncologists make most of their income by buying products (drugs) wholesale and selling them to patients at retail.

Like any business owner, the private practice oncologists, are entitled to, and deserve to make a living. My question is; should they make their money from treating patients or by SELLING the drugs? Other types of doctors don't have that option.

And where do you think the oncologists get their information about the drugs they are selling? It comes from the pharmaceutical sales person. Do you think that information might be biased?

How did this practice start? It started because Medicare and the insurance companies wanted to save money by transferring cancer treatments out of the hospital and into the hands of private practice oncologists. Again, it's all about the money. Unfortunately, that greed backfired and we the patients are paying the price. Since that policy was initiated, prices for many cancer drugs soared to tens of thousands of dollars a year.

All chemotherapy drugs used in the United States have been approved by the FDA. Does that make them safe? Do you think pharmaceutical companies influences the FDA into approving dangerous drugs the way they influence the private practice cancer doctors? I do.

I believe the pharmaceutical companies, and their lobbyists, have too much influence over the decision-making and policy of oncologists and the FDA.

It is well known that the FDA has allowed many drugs, including chemotherapy, to remain on the market in spite of serious risk factors. How did it come to pass that dangerous drugs get approved by the FDA and oncologists make significant profits from selling them? Meet the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), the drug industry trade group

PhRMA lobbied for the Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) of 1992. The drug industry agreed to help finance the approval process - in exchange for an FDA promise to speed up its deliberations. Does this make the FDA financially beholden to the industry it is supposed to regulate? I think so.

There are many natural non-toxic chemotherapies that kill malignancies. Laetrile, which is basically vitamin B17 selectively seeks out and destroys cancer cells and is available in many plant foods. It does that without harming healthy cels. Maybe the farmers who grow those plants should give oncologists a commission for selling their crops.

In spite of the tone of this article, I AM NOT AGAINST going to an oncologist for cancer treatment. I am not against all chemotherapy treatments. I am suggesting that you do as Trisha Torrey did; get a second opinion.

I almost died from my first two rounds of chemotherapy. I also felt the oncologists were arrogant and egotistical. I wasn't at all comfortable with them. I then returned to the cape where I live and started my treatment all over again. My doctor on the cape, Dr. Victor Aviles, did in fact treat me with chemotherapy. It was not the same drug as the Boston doctors used. I do not believe he chose this drug because of the profit motive. It was the drug best suited for my particular cancer. I always felt very comfortable with him.

My closing thought. If you are not totally comfortable with your doctor, get another one. There are wonderful, dedicated and honest oncologists out there. You may have to visit several to find the right one for you.

Chemotherapy Side Effects - Yet Another Battle

It is a grueling battle having to contend with a deadly disease, one of which is cancer. Incidences of cancer have increased throughout the years instigating more awareness towards the general populace to be mindful of their health. Medical science and technology on the other hand devised more means and measures for prevention and treatment. Conventional medicine generally resorts to chemotherapy for treatment of cancer. Chemotherapy as a cancer treatment makes use of pills, catheter or injection to infuse drugs or certain substances in the body. The primary purpose of these drugs and substances is to attack cancer cells, and ultimately kill them.

Cancer cells generally grow and reproduce rapidly. They are those causing havoc to a certain body part or parts. Chemotherapy drugs are chemically designed to hamper the growth and spread of cancer cells. The treatment can be carried out at home, a clinic or the hospital. As for the dosage and frequency, they are dependent on the extent of the illness or cancer stage and the patient's response to the medication/s. Therapy sessions can range from daily, weekly or monthly bases. Some on off schedules. A large number of cancer cases have had positive responses from chemotherapy. To a significant extent, it is an effective cancer treatment.

But entailed of this measure is yet another battle- against chemotherapy side effects. Drug and chemical treatment does not only destroy cancer cells. Normal and healthy cells in the body can be damaged as well. As a result, there is an offshoot of chemotherapy side effects, some of which are temporary, others permanent. What are common chemotherapy side effects and the means to relieve them? Fatigue is one. Chemotherapy side effects often differ from one patient to another, but tiredness is common among them. The degree of fatigue as a side effect varies. Some patients may find it debilitating while others can manage with their lives normally.

Nausea and vomiting are also two very common chemotherapy side effects. These symptoms may be controlled with an anti-sickness medication, but supervised by the doctor. Certain cancer drugs can cause mouth sores and ulcers to appear. Washing the mouth regularly can be helpful pertaining to this symptom. One of the distressing chemotherapy side effects is hair thinning or hair loss. This can be avoided by covering around the scalp when undergoing treatment. This can prevent the dilemma to some extent. In most cases, however, hair grows back after the therapy. Normal cells such as white blood cells may be diminished during chemotherapy causing a weakened immune system.

Susceptibility to infections may then arise. Decrease in blood cell count may be experienced. As a result, one may become weak or even develop anemia. A useful measure is to have regular blood tests for monitoring and regulation. Battling a disease is often distressing, not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. It can also tremendously drain one's financial resources. But perhaps everything is worth compromising for life to be spared. And a battle won over a disease may not necessarily mean having been freed from its grip. But rather having the courage to go on and rise above the anguish.

Breast Cancer Chemotherapy and the Endocrine System

Cancer chemotherapy affects the function of the ovaries in pre-menopause, specifically its ability to produce estrogen and progesterone. The ovaries secrete these hormones in a cyclic manner in response to trigger hormones produced by the pituitary gland. During the later part of a woman's reproductive life, during her late 40s or early 50s, the ovaries no longer produce these hormones and she is thus entering menopause. This process, where the ovaries shut down their sex hormone production, takes several months to a year or so to happen. The gradual decrease in estrogen and progesterone is usually accompanied by menopausal symptoms such as cessation of menstrual periods, hot flashes and vaginal dryness. Undergoing chemotherapy may accelerate menopause. This basically means that at the very same time a woman is handling a breast cancer diagnosis, she must deal with the changes and possible undesirable effects of the menopause. The same is true for woman on hormone replacement therapy who must abruptly stop her hormone treatment due to the diagnosis of breast cancer.

The association between breast cancer and endocrine status is complex and varies with every woman. The standard therapy for a recently diagnosed breast cancer patient is to stop hormone replacement therapy. This is because it has been found from numerous researches that estrogen increases the risk or breast cancer. In the past, women with breast cancer were advised not to resume hormone replacement therapy or begin it. Fortunately, this practice has changed and nowadays, treatment is based on each woman's individual situation. Nevertheless, you must consider the risks and benefits of hormone replacement therapy in relation to your disease.

Chemotherapy in younger women often produces symptoms of menopause that can be distressing and debilitating. Fortunately, women suffering from these symptoms can turn to Eastern medicine for relief. Certain herbal medicines used for many years by Eastern medical practitioners contain estrogen-like substances called phytoestrogens. Some of these herbs relieve symptoms without having any cancer promoting effects of estrogen. A few of these herbs are gotu kola and oil of evening primrose.

A lot of women have also found that through dietary modifications, they experience fewer hot flashes. Soy and soy products contain genistein, an estrogen-like substance. It is much less potent than the estrogen produced by the ovaries, but it does have the ability to improve hot flashes to varying degrees in most women.

After chemotherapy, many women will experience vaginal dryness as a result of estrogen deficiency. There are a number of effective vaginal moisturizers that can alleviate this symptom. Estrogen vaginal cream provides an excellent remedy, but in such cases, estrogen is absorbed systematically, which is usually contraindicated in the setting of breast cancer. The thinner the vaginal membranes, the more quickly estrogen is absorbed, thereby allowing large amounts to enter the body. New products are available on the market today in the form of a slow-releasing formulation estrogen vaginal inserts which may provide minimal amounts of estrogen to the body. These agents help ease the discomfort of dryness but do not provide so much estrogen as to stimulate growth in the cancer cells and interfere with treatment. You may want to discuss with your oncologist regarding treatment options when you are experiencing these adverse effects of chemotherapy on your endocrine function.

Chemotherapy for Breast Cancer

One of the present issues being addresses in clinical trials is whether anticancer drugs should be used together (cancer combination chemotherapy) or if they should be used as a single agent (sequential chemotherapy). If drugs are combined and share common toxicity such as bone marrow suppression, often the dosage must be reduced, perhaps also reducing its efficacy. Some drugs in combination may be synergistic, wherein the combination of two or more drugs enhances the anticancer effect as compared to when drugs are given alone in sequence.

Based on successful clinical trial results in the treatment of Hodgkin's disease, breast cancer chemotherapy was traditionally given in combination. Early results did demonstrate a combination of drugs were better than a single agent. As new evidence emerges regarding the presence of potentiation of these drugs and toxicities from interactions, cancer chemotherapy regimens may contain combined drugs, as well as drugs given singularly.

The other major issue for cancer specialists treating breast cancer with chemotherapy is drug dose regimen. The higher the dosage given in a fixed time period, the greater the potential toxicity and risk of adverse effects on the patient. Oftentimes, this is bone marrow toxicity, which involves a suppression of bone marrow stem cells leading to decreased white blood cell production (leucopenia), placing the patient at heightened risk for infection. Research shows that a certain dose intensity must be given to achieve the maximum antineoplastic activity, but going beyond this threshold only increases risk without further benefit.

A majority of anticancer drugs affect all dividing cells in the body. This includes both normal cancer cells. If a woman has microscopic spread of the cancer cells, these cancer cells will be replicating and be more sensitive to chemotherapy than most normal cells. Some of the body's normal cells that also replicate on a regular basis are the bone marrow cells and the lining cells of the gastrointestinal tract. It is for this reason that these normal cells are also sensitive to the anticancer drugs. Presently, there are several drugs that kill breast cancer cells and there are new agents under investigation. Much progress has been made in how to optimally administer these agents and there are supportive therapies to prevent the adverse events of chemotherapy. Several drug combinations have evolved and have been commonly used to treat women for possible metastatic disease. The standard has been one of two combinations: adriamycin and cyclophosphamide with or without 5 fluorouracil; and cyclophosphamide, methotrexate and 5 fluorouracil.

A new agent, trastuzumab (brand name Herceptin), an antibody directed against Her-2 protein that is abundant on the cancer cell surface. This cancer protein is over expressed in cancer cells and poses as a very good target for anticancer agents. This drug is presently undergoing testing for the use in women with localized breast cancer that demonstrate an abundance of this cancer protein.

It is important for cancer patients to educate themselves about chemotherapy and its adverse effects before making a decision to incorporate certain anticancer drugs in their treatment plan.

Active Symptom Control For Mesothelioma Studied For Chemotherapy Treatment

Active control of the symptoms of mesothelioma in chemotherapy studied

According to a recent issue of the British medical journal, The Lancet, researchers have been studying the effect of chemotherapy in mesothelioma. Because chemotherapy is not considered a successful treatment for mesothelioma cancer, but a treatment for mesothelioma signs and symptoms of medical professionals to continue the discussion of the usefulness of the procedure in controlling symptoms.

The researchers studied 409 patients of all who suffer from malignant pleural mesothelioma in different parts of the world. Patients were randomly assigned a treatment of symptoms or treatment that included an active control treatment with two chemotherapy drugs. According to the study, "the active symptom control treatments include steroids, bronchodilators, analgesic drugs and palliative radiotherapy."

After the study, patients in both treatment options were compared and, according to investigators, "the addition of chemotherapy to control the symptoms showed a non significant benefit or advances in survival or quality of life" among the victims of mesothelioma.

What is mesothelioma, chemotherapy?

Mesothelioma is a malignant disease in which cancer cells develop in a thin layer of tissue that is the thoracic cavity that covers the lungs, which is also known as the pleura or peritoneum, the tissue lining the abdomen and Most of the bodies, according to the National Cancer Institute (NCI).

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), chemotherapy is a treatment method that uses chemicals commonly administered through a catheter, pill, injection, or the port, which is usually a round disk of metal or plastic , which is when cancer cells begin to develop abnormal and divide uncontrollably fast. Chemotherapy is given for a variety of reasons, but is based on certain factors such as stage of cancer, a patient's health and age of a patient. For patients with mesothelioma, chemotherapy is not a method of cure, but is administered to patients with mesothelioma for several reasons including:

  • Halting the growth and spread of cancer, to control cancer
  • Minimize or reduce tumors - this method is also known as neoadjuvant chemotherapy
  • The palliative chemotherapy on pain and other symptoms have to be reduced
  • The destruction of microscopic disease that remains after a surgical procedure, also known as adjuvant chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is given as a catheter into a large vein in the body or a catheter is attached as a port that is placed on the chest under the skin for a period of time.

Living with Mesothelioma

Unfortunately, victims of mesothelioma receive further setbacks in his life-threatening condition, as currently there is no successful treatment for cancer death. However, a person has the opportunity to participate in a series of clinical trials of the treatment groups, as well as the opportunity to develop mesothelioma a demand for monetary compensation as a means of payment for the condition, which is often associated with the very expensive medical bills.

Chemotherapy For Colon Cancer Patients

The majority of people that have been diagnosed with colon cancer will treat this debilitating and deadly disease with a type of chemotherapy treatment. There are several types of chemotherapy that determine how the doctor will give the patient the drugs involved in the healing process.

Each drug that is given to the patient will work well together to kill off the cancer cells that is the patient's body. These drugs can be given to patients in a pill form, intravenously through injection, or intravenously with a pump.
Primary chemotherapy is more often used to treat patients who are far advanced and in which the cancer cells have spread to many different parts of the body. Because it has spread so far surgery is not effective. This particular type chemotherapy treatment will work to shrink the tumor nodules and reduce the effect of the symptoms.

Adjuvant chemotherapy is used after surgery has removed the tumor. However, the surgery may not be able to remove cancer from the infected body. Because of this the adjuvant chemotherapy will work to kill off any remaining cancer cells left behind and that might have spread to other parts of the body.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy has been designed to treat patients before entering into surgery. The drugs used in this chemotherapy treatment help to shrink the tumor to help the surgeon to find it all and remove it without any problems. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is usually given with radiation.

Chemotherapy Side Effects

Chemotherapy for colon cancer is designed to kill cancer cells that are quickly moving throughout the body. However, it will also kill off the healthy cells that are contained in our bodies. These cells are usually the membranes that line out mouth, the hair follicles, lining of the gastrointestinal tract, and bone marrow. There are numerous side effects from chemotherapy treatments that anyone should expect to see when using these treatments.

Nausea and vomiting
Loss of appetite
Hair loss
Mouth sores
Rash on hands and feet
Diarrhea
Decrease in the immune system
Risk of infections

It is common for people to use Chemotherapy for Colon Cancer to better treat it. Learn more Colon Cancer Facts to better protect your body.

Side Effects of Chemotherapy in Treatment of Mesothelioma Cancer Patients

Develop mesothelioma cancer cells multiply faster than normal cells and ordinary, but also some normal cells and also normal multiply rapidly, most notably those of the reproductive system, digestive tract, and hair follicles. Side effects that occur as a result of damage to normal cells and normal treatment of cancer mesothelioma.

The rate of side effects and mesothelioma patients go through the seriousness of purpose, based on the type of chemotherapy, patients are in mesothelioma, the pharmacology of drugs, dose and how your body reacts to this type treatment of mesothelioma.

Types of pain before starting treatment and chemotherapy starts, mesothelioma patients are told to sign an agreement form. Before signing the form, make sure your doctor gives you all the information and all the facts regarding the treatment of administering chemotherapy is also to include the information necessary and appropriate chemotherapy drugs or a combination chemotherapy drugs are administered, side effects and risks involved in using each drug of chemotherapy, the amount of chemotherapy treatment of mesothelioma will be subject to frequent and how, and if under a stay in the hospital, or as an admission or outpatient basis.

How to Avoid the Side Effects of Chemotherapy Drugs For Cancer

For the chemotherapy drugs to get inside the cells, where they can do their job, requires a very high doses of these drugs. If the dose is not high enough then the drug can not force itself across the membranes of cancer cells. But the drawback of this method is the very serious dose-related side effects. The chemotherapy drugs can´t tell the difference between normal cells and cancer cells, so it kills both type of cells. There is a very simple but very effective method to avoid the side effects of chemotherapy drugs. In this article I will tell you more about it.

With the recent advances it is possible to avoid the side effects of chemotherapy drugs dramatically. And also increasing the effectiveness of chemotherapy as well. The key to make the drugs more effective is a strategy called insulin potentiation therapy (IPT). It is a non-diabetic use of the insulin hormone to increase the delivery and effectiveness of standard medications dramatically. This strategy can help the medications act like super drugs, with better results for many millions of patients worldwide.

Insulin is a very powerful hormone and is secreted by the pancreas in healthy people. It is also used to treat diabetes. Insulin[ job is to deliver glucose across cell membranes into cells. All the cells in the human body have receptors on the surface of the cell membrane that communicate to insulin. There can be one hundred to one hundred thousand of receptors per cell.

It is interesting that different studies report that cancer cells actually produce and secrete their own insulin. And cancer cells have ten times more insulin receptors per cell than any of the normal cells in the body. There is a big difference between normal cells and cancer cells and that is very important. It means that the effect of administered insulin will be ten times greater on cancer cells than on normal cells because cancer cells have ten times more insulin receptors.

An effective dose intensity of chemotherapy drugs combined with actions of insulin in IPT is able to be delivered selectively into the cancer cells sparing normal tissue. That can be achieved using greatly reduced doses of the drugs, eliminating the side effects of high doses.

In insulin potentiation therapy insulin administration has an effect to make blood glucose to go down. It is also called hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia is an side effect of insulin. It is effectively and rapidly controllable with intravenous glucose infusions at an appropriate time, according to the protocol of IPT.

If cancer cells want to grow and divide then they need sugar (glucose). The insulin brings down the levels of blood sugar and when it reaches it[ lowest then the cancer cell is desperate for glucose. Extra amounts of insulin receptors on the cells of the cancer means they will receive many times the amount of glucose/chemo as the normal cell. It is an effective way to concentrate the action in the cancer cells and not killing normal cells.
